Lennon [VHS] Review

Lennon-A Tribute is without doubt the best tribute album made for J. Lennon. "Eight Days A Week" performed by Lou Gramm (who was the vocalist of the hard rock band Foreigner) is my favorite song in this album. "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away" performed by Terence Trent D'arby is good too, because D'Arby was another successful singer of the 1980's. His style is really distinct. "Working Class Hero" performed by Cyndi Lauper shows how a new wave singer can turn an original Lennon song to a nice contemporary piece. The same is true for "Ticket To Ride" performed by Natalie Cole. "I Feel Fine" performed by Wet Wet Wet explicitly proves that Wet Wet Wet's vocalist knows very well what he's doing (just like John Lennon?) And you're very likely to know "Cold Turkey" by Lenny Kravitz and "Imagine" by Elton John if you're into these artists. "Back In The USSR" by Bill Joel is not John's song, but the producer must have included it as Joel and his band had an extraordinary performance of this song. "Don't Let Me Down" performed by Hall & Oats and "Ballad of John & Yoko" performed by Dave Edmonds manage to entertain me like their original versions. And surprisingly, there's the "Dear Prudence" performed by Sean Ono Lennon who is John's younger son. Though Sean Ono Lennon's performance is not bad (in fact it's just as good as the other artists' renditions) I'd prefer Julian Lennon (his older son) had sung this song. And towards the end, there's Ringo Starr singing "I Call Your Name"; it's like a Traveling Wilburys song because Tom Petty is on the bass and Jeff Lynne on electric guitar. And just a few words for the VHS version: Its picture and sound quality is superb (as good as DVD).
