The story of the Holocaust needs to be told over and over again, in hopes that future generations can understand the horrors perpetrated on an entire race of people and prevent future occurrences. "Schindler's List" is perhaps one of the best and most effective vehicles for telling that story I've ever experienced. My daughter introduced me to THE VELVETEEN RABBIT when she was five and we read it together until she knew it by heart. I was reluctant at first to view the filmed version of the story; too many of my favorite books had been badly adapted to the screen, their plot telescoped to accommodate intrusive songs and music and irrelevant characters. However, this animated version of THE VELVETEEN RABBIT has managed to keep the emotional content and magic of the original story. The graphics are predictable and rather trivial except for the RABBIT himself who is very appealing. END

Splash [VHS] Review

The DVD extras really make this 20th anniversary re-release worth owning. This movie has been run repeatedly (in edited form) on television, so there probably aren't that many people who haven't had a chance to see this delightful fantasy. The "making-of" video and the commentary track give a fascinating glimpse into the way that Hollywood works. Why did Disney wind up making this film? How did Tom Hanks get the lead? How did they choose Darryl Hannah? Who was the film's "real" star? How did they pull off the underwater shots? What was the lobster that Madison ate in the restaurant? If you have a soft spot for this film, it's a joy to watch and a real treat to get to know better.

I was looking for QUESTION OF FAITH, which seems to be only on VHS and out of print. I had found it helpful, informative and inspirational a few years ago, and look forward to getting a copy somehow.

Hot Shots is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. Charlie Sheen is okay, but in my opinion, the real comic here is Lloyd Bridges, playing Admiral Benson. Of course there are many other funny characters including the wall-eyed vision Washout. If you like movies with stupid humor, this is a must see.

Predator [VHS] Review

My 1-star review is not for the movie, Predator, which I love. I bought it twice on DVD: the first single-disc release with no extras, and then the excellent 2-disc special edition. I am not going to be buying on Blu-Ray, however, until the chowder-heads over at Fox start including all of the ALREADY PRODUCED extras on their Blu-Ray discs. Case in point: Predator.

Predator on Blu-Ray features a higher definition transfer (though on a single layer disc), but carries over none of the special features from the 2-disc DVD. How hard would this have been? Make it a dual layer Blu-Ray, and just throw them all on there in standard definition. That would have guaranteed and instant buy for me. But this habit of dumping the film bare-bones onto Blu-Ray is reminiscent of the early days of DVD, and I thought we were past that. Other studios are doing a fine job of including all the special features, so why is Fox being dumb? And why are they slapping a $40 MSRP on a bare-bones release?

You would have had me with a good release, Fox. I would gladly plonk down the cash for a true upgrade from my DVD version. But you blew it, and you're not getting my money.

Why doesn't anyone like this movie...I love it!
It has a great bond girl in Tanya Roberts(Former Charlies Angel). She can't act, but man is she hot! And Christopher Walken's performance as the bad guy, Zorrin makes up for any bad acting on Tanya Roberts' part. It has tons of action(i love the opening sequence), not to mention the title song by Duran Duran, which is awesome. This is definetly one of Moore's better Bond performances and I think it has a nice comfy seat somewhere in the top 10 Bond films of all time! I Reccomend this movie to bond fans, action fans, and guys who like tanya roberts(and Christopher Walken)

Gremlins [VHS] Review

It follows a somewhat conventional monster movie plot. An ordinary guy witnesses his unusual but cute cuddly pet spawn a horde of evil Gremlins. He tries to warn the authorities, but they don't believe him until the creatures show up and go on a rampage throughout the town. Like in many monster movies, a plan is devised to destroy them, which works, but then there's still one left which needs to be defeated.

Every monster movie convention in the book is used, including all the famous shocks such as something jumping out in the foreground and something jumping out in the background, but what makes this film original is the Gremlins' silly personalities. They don't eat people or kill them in order to survive in any way. They just want to have fun and cause chaos! Their personalities are almost human and seem to represent a side of us that has no morals and just wants to let loose in a world without regulations. At times, you are cheering for the monsters, which makes this movie so unique.

Two major highlights are the bar scene and the movie theater scene where all the gremlins gather together and have a great time!
