Both a classic movie for kids and a remarkable portrait of childhood, E.T. is a sci-fi adventure that captures that strange moment in youth when the world is a place of mysterious possibilities (some wonderful, some awful), and the universe seems somehow separate from the one inhabited by grown-ups. Henry Thomas plays Elliott, a young boy living with his single mother (Dee Wallace), his older brother Michael (Robert MacNaughton), and his younger sister Gertie (Drew Barrymore). Elliott often seems lonely and out of sorts, lost in his own world. One day, while looking for something in the back yard, he senses something mysterious in the woods watching him. And he's right: an alien spacecraft on a scientific mission mistakenly left behind an aging botanist who isn't sure how to get home. Eventually Elliott puts his fears aside and makes contact with the "little squashy guy," perhaps the least threatening alien invader ever to hit a movie screen. As Elliott tries to keep the alien under wraps and help him figure out a way to get home, he discovers that the creature can communicate with him telepathically. Soon they begin to learn from each other, and Elliott becomes braver and less threatened by life. E.T. rigs up a communication device from junk he finds around the house, but no one knows if he'll be rescued before a group of government scientists gets hold of him. In 2002, Steven Spielberg re-released E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial in a revised edition, with several deleted scenes restored and digitally refurbished special effects.

Let me explain something that I feel a lot of people are forgetting. This set doesn't only include the new version, but the old as well. That's a great deal, since you can choose which one you would like to see. If you hate the new effects and CGI, don't watch it. It's that simple.

Now don't get me wrong. I think the newer version is very silly, and I wonder if Spielberg really thought it looked good when he did it. Maybe if he were to do it in around 10 years, it wouldn't look so animated.

I did like the deleted bathroom scene though, even though it was done with CGI. It would have been nice to have seen that in the original, but I guess that would be having my cake and eating it too.

There is nothing flawed about this set, it simply just gives some options that not everyone will want to choose. If you enjoy the movie, you will enjoy this set. It's a classic that hasn't lost it's flavor after all these years.

David The Gnome The Complete Series [DVD] [1985] Review

I read that a lot of people were getting bad versions of this set. The person that is responsible has stated on more than one "bad" review that it was due to a bad batch of pressings. Well, as far as that goes it must be fixed because all four of my disks work. On the contrary, the packaging on mine was terrible. Disks three and four do not fit and are loose in the case. With that being said, I see no reason to take a star off. Also, there is no episode listing so you will have to go to Wikipedia for that information.
As for the quality of the transfer from VHS to DVD, it looks and sounds fine to me. I am 31 years old and grew up on this show and am very thankful this company bought the rights and brought it to DVD. My one year old has been watching it with me as I bought it for him. I forgot the show had a message as well as being well written with awesome animation. When my boy starts gaining comprehension of what he is watching, it is going to be just that much more special to him as it was for me. I highly recommend this and if you happen to get a bad copy, send it back. The seller or Amazon will fix it just like anything else. I have been an Amazon customer for many years and have never been ripped off. One way or another all issues I've had were fixed. It's worth a shot!

Vampires: Los Muertos [VHS] Review

Vampires: Los Muertos, was produced by John Carpenter who directed the first installment of the now two Vampires movies. Tommy Lee Wallace direct's Vampires: Los Muertos this time around, and, his style and eye behind the camera is impressive. This time starring as the vampire hunter is Jon Bon Jovi (The Leading Man, Row Your Boat), who plays Derek Bliss a vampire hunter who goes to New Mexico to take on an assignment. It's relatively simple, to kill Vampires and destroy their leader played by the beautiful Arly Jover (who's quite good in this role). Derek Bliss soon finds out that it will not be an easy task, so he creates, you guessed it -- his own team of Vampire slayers. This time one of them is actually half Vampire, played by the gorgeous Natasha Gregson Wagner. She pops in some kind of miracle pill that helps control the Vampire disease. Without giving away to many of the films secrets, the main theme here is of course Vampire hunting and that is what we get. The whole cast is convincing and there is chemistry between all of them which makes the film more interesting. We get our share of action -- filmed convincingly, and there is lots of it in Vampires: Los Muertos. While the film does have b-movie elements at times (some of the effects look unrealistic), Jon Bon Jovi, and his impressive performance takes Vampires: Los Muertos into A-movie terrain, and without him this film would probably have had a hard time getting there. Jon Bon Jovi makes a great action hero here, and he is probably the sole reason alone that makes Vampires: Los Muertos worth seeing. One more thing, I think this film was at least good enough to have it released theatrically. Anyhow it's yours to see on video, and it's quite a trip.

This two Disk DVD Set is extraordinary. The Picture and Sound quality are so very good that you feel as though you are watching it in a theater. Because it's a widescreen picture the closed captioning doesn't interfere with the picture. It's jam packed with all sorts of extra bonus special features. Everything you ever wanted to know about First Contact and weren't afraid to be told. Let's not forget what a wonderful job Jonathan Frakes did directing. He truly proved himself a more than qualified director for feature films. We all know what a great job he did behind the cameras on the T.V. show. My boyfriend and I watched it together and he was really impressed. He asked me how much it cost. When I told him how inexpensive it was he bought two copies. One for a gift to another Treky fan. I highly recommend this two disk set and suggest you buy it right away before they run out. If you're not satisfied with it, I'll pay you for it. That's how much confidence I have that you'll absolutely LOVE it. Believe me when I tell you this is one purchase that you will never regret. ORDER NOW!!! I thought the film was terrific. It lived up to the quality that we are used to getting when we see anything that starts out with the heading Star Trek. Half Light [DVD] Review

I believe Demi Moore is an outstanding actor and she didn't disappoint in this movie in her performance. She plays an author in this movie who has to endure the death of her son. At first I thought her son was murdered but it turns out that was not the case and we find Demi hidding herself at a secluded ocean front home desperately tring to regain some reason for living. It is during this time she sees visions of her son, finds messages from him and falls in love with the keeper of the lighthouse, who truly is not who you think he is.

For a little while you may feel this movie is moving way too slow, but it is building up to a very suspenseful conclusion and one that will surprise you. Suspense, action, romance and a 'never saw it coming,' conclusion awaits you in this movie and is certainly worth your time.
